Effective Monday, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) will offer free rides to all passengers "until further notice," officials said.
This change acts not as an incentive to use public transportation, but as a precautionary measure as the region attempts to stop the spread of COVID-19.
"We ask all passengers to limit non-essential travel on TANK buses to allow for safe travel for those performing essential services in the community," TANK states on their website.

The buses are eliminating front-door access for the time being, the release states. This effort is an attempt to practice social distancing and provide an additional layer of protection for drivers.
Riders should enter and exit buses using the back doors only, the release states. Passengers with mobility and accessibility requirements may board at the front door.
Also starting Monday, TANK will operate a reduced "Sunday Plus" schedule seven days a week. This includes several local routes. Routes No. 9 and 11 at Taylor Mill/Independence and Fort Thomas will not run at all.
Four TANK express routes will continue operating, including the 2X Airporter.
